Decrypto is an incredible board game that sits in a similar space to Codenames. It presents a unique puzzle and is different with every group you play with. The game pits two teams against each other. The general idea of the game is to transmit information to your own team without the other team understanding. To win you have to walk a fine line: The instructions you give need to be clear enough for your teammates to understand, while at the same time obscure enough to baffle your adversaries!

What makes this game great is what is simple on the first turn (give a clue for "whale") become bizarrely complex by the 5th turn, -give a clue for "whale" that your opponents wont link to the last 4 clues you gave.

Mechanics

  • Word Association
  • Code Breaking
  • Deduction

How to Play Decrypto

Each team has a screen with 4 words numbered 1 to 4. You and your team can see all 4 words. One player in the team draws a card which has 3 numbers on it, and has to give 3 clues that relates to the words. Then the opposing team gets a chance to guess the code, if they fail your own team guesses the code. If the opposing team get it correct they get a token, if your team gets it wrong you get a bad token. Then it is the other teams turn to do the same.

Three good tokens you win. Three bad tokens you loose.

Each turn you record the code and the clues, and your opponents have another piece of the puzzle.
